Active young people build solidarity communities!

Around 1,500 students from 24 primary and secondary schools in Croatia are marking the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination with a joint action of sending messages of solidarity to their fellow citizens.
This school year, through the analysis of selected photos on postcards, students and their teachers address the topics of discrimination, climate change, intergenerational solidarity, migration, mental health of young people, gender equality and women's rights. Messages related to these topics are printed on the back of postcards and sent to randomly selected addresses in their towns and cities, and they hope to receive answers from their fellow citizens. Therefore, if you find one of these postcards in your mailbox, reply to them, because we build solidarity together!
The project involves schools from Daruvar, Desinić, Donja Stubica, Lipik, Lobor, Metković, Orehovac, Osijek, Pakrac, Pleternica, Rijeka, Slavonski Brod, Šemovac, Tuhelj, Velika, Zabok and Zagreb, and in the upcoming months six schools will in accordance with epidemiological measures, organize local student solidarity actions.
These activities complement the teaching of civic education, as well as numerous other subjects and extracurricular activities in Croatian schools.
For many years, the Centre for Peace Studies has been advocating for the quality introduction of civic education in schools in Croatia, which would provide students with the opportunity to develop their civic competence, which is reflected in the development of knowledge and attitudes towards certain social and political issues. and behaviors, which include a willingness to actively participate in social life, both locally and globally. Through this project students of the schools involved have made a step in that direction, but encouraging the emancipation of young people, and training them to build social solidarity must be in the constant focus of educational policies.
The prerequisite for quality work with students are satisfied and competent teachers, and this school year as many as 50 teachers were provided with additional training and mentoring by CPS.
Let’s replay fraternity card activities are being implemented in Croatia for the third time now.
