Global Education Week 2021 - It’s our world, let’s take action together!

In a highly globalized world, everyone should have the opportunity to learn about the interconnectedness of local and global challenges, understand their interdependence, know how to think critically, and act actively in diverse environments. Unfortunately, our formal education system still does not provide its students with sufficient opportunities to develop global competence by not placing enough importance on civic education for all students, and especially neglecting its global dimension. On the other hand, citizens are not offered enough opportunities to inform themselves about current global events, such as for example the ongoing COP26 conference on climate change, whose agreements will affect all of us, through public television or similar services.
Global Education Week is an annual global initiative to raise awareness of the importance of developing global competence of young people and other citizens, and 2021 is held from 15 to 21 November under the motto "This is our world, let's start change together!". The week is an opportunity to rethink our world together through various formal and non-formal education activities and community actions, using global education as a tool for solidarity and change with which we can contribute to a more sustainable and just world. Global education is an opportunity for us to critically address various global challenges that affect our communities such as climate change, clean water availability, energy availability, food, pollution, women's rights, labor rights, rule of law and other topics that are also priorities of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Although without the support of relevant institutions, every year more and more schools and organizations get involved in the activities of the Week coordinated in Croatia by the Centre for Peace Studies.
