Pleternica youngsters encourage solidarity

Almost 60 students from the Croatian town of Pleternica from March to May 2021 planned and carried out five actions of solidarity in their communities with their teachers! Teachers encouraged them to think about their role in the community and then the students gave suggestions for solidarity actions that they could initiate and do on their own. The aim was to introduce them to the concept of solidarity through actions that they will initiate themselves and in this way they will also learn and become aware of their role in the community, develop their skills and strengthen their self-confidence.
The students of the Buk Primary School cleaned a part of the Podrumište forest in agreement with the Croatian Forests, state enterprise responsible for forest and woodland management, and prepared video messages along with the cleaning. In Brodski Drenovac, students refreshed the playground equipment next to the school and planted flowers. Their peers posted eco-messages in Gradac. Pupils of the 4th grade of the main school arranged concrete flower beds in the space for socializing and playing. In their action of solidarity, the fourth graders of Kuzma turned to the people. They wrote letters and made decorative bowls for people housed in the Home for the Elderly who could not socialize due to the pandemic. In order to cheer them up in their letters, they also expressed a desire for further correspondence.
Through their actions, the students contributed to a more pleasant and beautiful environment in which they live every day. In addition to socializing and working together, students were happy to contribute to their communities and learn what the concept of solidarity means, and strengthen their role in the community in which they live.
