Sharing good thoughts

Landscape tulips with good thoughts

On the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, seventy-five students from elementary school Fran Kranjec distributed 142 tulips with good thoughts to people in their town Celje. It was a collaborative project between pupils from 2nd and 5th grade. While those from 2nd grade prepared tulips, those of 5th grade wrote down short messages of solidarity. On March 21st, they walked around town and asked by-passers what solidarity means to them. While they chatted, they offered them a tulip and thus made their day. Some pupils from 8th grade also joined the event and together with the group prepared a stand in the centre of the town to raise awareness about racial discrimination. Children were full of expectations. They were very excited while making the tulips and curious to whom they will be distributing them. At the end of the day they were very positive about how it all went and they realised they prefer working in pairs as it gave them more courage to approach the people. Although some by-passers did not stop and ignored the children with tulips, the majority was very thankful and complemented them for sharing such positive messages. Some even gave small donations, which at the end of the day children gave to a musician from Ukraine who just arrived to Celje and is now playing on the town’s streets. It really was a beautiful day of solidarity and cooperation.
