Solidarity with refugees

In the beginning of March, two weeks after the beginning of war in Ukraine, pupils from elementary school in Celje joined a humanitarian action initiated by the Municipality of Celje and town’s youth centre. While the purpose of the action was to collect food and non-food items for refugees, the aim was also to raise empathy and solidarity among pupils, their parents and teachers. The response was enormous therefore the school connected to local civil protection unit who transported humanitarian aid. Many pupils wanted to help. Some pupils from 3^rd grade even formed a voluntary group who every morning received and sorted donations. As some of them commented, they felt useful that they can help not only materially but also with their work. They also expressed concern about war and empathy to those that had to flee their homes.
